British Columbia
Golf Zone 3 includes all golf clubs from White Rock/South
Surrey, south of the Fraser River to Hope and back along the
north of the Fraser River to Westwood Plateau.

The path into heaven is just wide enough
for a golf cart.
I first met Wayne
at the 2007 or ‘08 BC Men’s Mid Amateur. He had just written
his provincial rules exam, and this was my first event as a
Rules Chair. It was also very early in Susan White’s tenure as
Tournament Director. We were all pretty green in our
respective positions. Wayne quickly became a very good
referee. He was knowledgeable with the rules, and his RCMP
training served him well under pressure.
He joined the Zone 3 committee a year or two after that first
meeting. You could always count on Wayne to work any event if
asked; men’s or women’s; Zone, Provincial or National; from
age Bantam to Senior. He worked them all. When his wife,
Rosalie became certified, the two made a fantastic team.
Wayne also served as the Zone 3 representative on the Zone
Council for many years. At some point he was elected/agreed or
was appointed Zone 3 Vice Chair but wouldn’t commit to the
Chair position, regardless of my constant requests.
Wayne always carried himself with class and dignity. We’d
discuss various rulings and he would look to me for my Rules
expertise and knowledge. I would watch and learn how he
handled himself on the course. As mentioned, his RCMP training
served him well. I learned a lot from him. Wayne served as the
Zone 3 Amateur Championship Chair the last few years. Even
while sick he still agreed to chair the tournament until he
physically couldn’t do it any longer. My last conversation
with him, he was very apologetic that he couldn’t continue. I
told him he had nothing to apologize for. Wayne will continue
to watch and follow our Zone 3 players at Championships, as he
would often do.
May all your
officiating be fairways & greens with the final putt dropping
for birdie to eliminate any playoffs.
Rest
in Peace my Friend
